‘Lift the Lid’ Resource Boxes
The ‘Lift the Lid’ team are designing 9 boxes which contain a variety of activities, tools to engage pupils, resources to aid learning and relevant information to assist teaching. Each box is created with two specific aims; to the meet the requirements of the RE Agreed Syllabus for North Yorkshire and to equip teachers and help pupils to explore and develop knowledge of Christianity.
- Celebrations: Christmas
‘Lift the Lid’ on Celebrations: Christmas
A super seasonal resource. This box examines Christmas today, the origins of Christmas and the ways in which Christians celebrate Christmas. The resources are designed to take the children on a journey and learn that there’s more to Christmas then presents. The ‘Lift the Lid’ on Christmas resource box is designed to be used for both key stage 1 and 2. We pack more resources into one box, therefore only one box is needed to cover both key stages.
- Celebrations: Easter
‘Lift the Lid’ on Celebrations: Easter
Through acting out the story and handling artefacts the children learn the significance of Easter for Christians. Worksheets, books and games reinforce their learning and develop a knowledge of Easter based on the Bible rather than Easter Eggs. The ‘Lift the Lid’ on Easter resource box is designed to be used for both key stage 1 and 2. We pack more resources into one box, therefore only one box is needed to cover both key stages.
‘Lift the Lid’ on Inspirations (Unit 2.1)
These resources explore Jesus’ life and teachings and discovers how Jesus can be an inspiration to some people. Using real life examples, music, games and stories the children come to understand what inspires people and asks what inspires them.
‘Lift the Lid’ on Values (Unit 2.7)
A fantastic resource for exploring what’s important to individuals, what do they value and what are their values based upon. Through stories, role play, video clips and debate the children are immersed in the topic and encouraged to think about their own values.
‘Lift the Lid’ on Life’s Journey (Unit 2.3)
A brilliant resource that considers spirituality and life as a journey. The resources look at Jesus’ life and death and ask questions about heaven. Real life examples help explore how there are milestones in life and encourage the children to think about their lives.
‘Lift the Lid’ on Sacred Places (Unit 1.6)
A wonderful box focusing on Christianity, looking at the history of the church, considering the importance of sacred and holy places. The children explore the beliefs behind traditions and church artefacts and reflect on their own beliefs and traditions.
Changing the World
‘Lift the Lid’ on Changing the World (Unit 2.5)
A thought provoking resource which encourages the children to ask questions about justice and consider how Christian beliefs can change the world. The charity Christian Aid provides an authentic means to explore the topic along with other teaching tools.
Our Beautiful World
‘Lift the Lid’ on Our Beautiful World (Unit 2.2)
An excellent box that helps children to explore the world they can see and ask questions about its origins. Flash cards, sequencing activities and worksheets are used to explore the biblical account of creation, while leaving room for ‘I wonder’ questions.
‘Lift the Lid’ on Our Community (Unit 2.8)
This box unpacks for children the ideal and reality of community. Focussing on respect and diversity the children learn about differences in religions, but also look at what the Bible says about community. The box has crossover from RE to Geography as well.
